Breanne Acio is a lecturer in the School of Communication at San Diego State University. She earned her B.A. in Communication from California State University, Northridge, with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies, and her M.A. in Communication from SDSU. Her areas of interest include interpersonal and relational comm., intercultural comm., health comm., leadership, and social change. Most of her research is centered on how people manage stigma in varying social contexts, primarily for sexual and gender minorities. She believes that the study of communication is a powerful tool for creating understanding, cooperation, and compassion within our social world.
