We stay in hostels or small hotels and we travel between cities by chartered bus unless otherwise indicated. Our arrangements are geared to save students money while not sacrificing the Europe experience. While we are in each city we will have scheduled tours or special excursions (or free time). Students will be making independent observations and sharing them in 2 class sessions in each city. Most evenings are free, although we do have at least one group dinner in each city. Below are the cities we are looking at for 2013 - once plans have been finalized, we will post dates and details.
Dublin, Ireland
We plan to start in the capital of Ireland. We will have plenty of opportunities to experience the rish Irish culture. After a few days we will travel by bus to see some historical sites before boarding a ferry to Wales. We will board another bus and journey to Stratford for the night, home of Shakespeare. The next day we will continue our journey to London

London, England
We will enjoy a few days in the largest city in the United Kingdom, home to Parliament and numerous sites including Big Ben and The Tower of London. Next, we will take the Chunnel from London directly to Paris - a train that goes below the English Channel.Paris, France
While in Paris, we will (in addition to our classes) be able to see the Eiffel Tower, take a walking tour through the heart of the city from Notre Dame to the Arc d'Triomphe. There will be free time to visit museums and many other sites in this beautiful city.
Grindelwald, SwitzerlandWe will take a chartered bus from Paris to a perennial student favorite, Grindelwald, Switzerland, in the Alps near Interlaken. We will be staying in a lodge - something like summer camp - bunk beds and our classroom and a kitchen for our use is located in our building, which is reserved only for our group. The snow-covered mountains and cascading waterfalls will be your daily view.
We will take excursions hiking in the Alps, see Trummelbach Falls located in the Valley of the 72 Waterfalls, and take the Jungfraubahn to the top of the nearby mountain, the Jungfrau. Noted travel expert Rick Steves calls this the most beautiful train ride in the world.
Munich, GermanyNext, we take our chartered bus to the heart of Bavaria - Munich! Highlights include the area of Munich near our hostel around Marienplatz, which is dedicated to the patron of the city. We will also join Mike's Bikes for a Bicycle Tour of Munich. The tour includes many historic sites as well as a good part of the Englischer Garten. On our last evening, we will enjoy dinner and attend a traditional Bavarian music and dance show at the world-famous Hofbrauhaus.
Prague, Czech Republic
Finally, we take our chartered bus to the historic capital of the Czech Republic. Highlights include the old town district near our hostel, the Charles Bridge, and the beautiful castle high upon a hill overlooking the river and the rest of the city.

In case of emergency, family members should call the faculty at the hotel or leave a message on the faculty cell phone - we will provide students the number prior to our departure. If we are not available at the hotel, leave a message for Dr.Kurt Lindemann or Dr. William Snavely.
Students may take along a cell phone, but please be sure the phone will operate in Europe (most don't) and also understand that text and voice charges are usually very high. The preferred mode of communication home is Skyp e or email. We will provide students with two packets of information regarding safety and behavioral guidelines - one for family/parents and one to take along to Europe. Families should take the time to read this information and reinforce its importance to your student. Top of Page
