Communication Minor

The School of Communication offers a minor in Communication. Students whose majors are within the School of Communication are NOT allowed to pursue a minor within the School of Communication. The minor consists of a minimum of 21 units. Students may enroll in the minor after successfully completing the lower division, prerequisite courses.

The minor in Communication consists of 21 units (see course requirements below).

Admission to the minor requires the following:

  • Six units slected from:
    • COMM 160 - Argumentation (3 units)
    • COMM 201 - Communication and Community (3 units)
    • COMM 204 - Advanced Public Speaking (3 units)
    • COMM 245 - Interpersonal Communication (3 units)
  • Completion of at least 45 units with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75
  • Completion of the GE Oral Communication requirement (COMM 103) with a grade of C or better.

Required Courses:

  • COMM 300 - Conceptualizing Communication Units: 3
  • COMM 350 - Investigating Communication Units: 3

Six Units Selected From:

  • COMM 321 - Introduction to Health Communication Units: 3
  • COMM 371 - Intercultural Communication Units: 3
  • COMM 406 - Organizational Communication Units: 3
  • COMM 415 - Nonverbal Communication Units: 3
  • COMM 445 - Relational Communication Units: 3
  • COMM 450 - Rhetorical Theory Units: 3
  • COMM 470 - Argumentation Theory Units: 3
  • COMM 485 - Communicating Leadership Units: 3
  • COMM 492 - Persuasion Units: 3

Three Additional Upper Division Units in Communication

A minimum of six upper division units must be earned at SDSU. This minor is not available to students in the Communication or Health Communication majors. See the Director or the undergraduate advisor to enroll in the minor.
