Student Research Symposium
Student Research Symposium (S³)
The Student Research Symposium (S³) is San Diego State University’s annual showcase of student discovery, innovation, scholarship, and creative activity. Hosted each spring semester, S³ provides a public forum where SDSU students present research, scholarship, and creative projects to peers, faculty, staff, and the broader San Diego community.
What Is S³?
S³, pronounced “S-Cubed,” is the University’s flagship student research event that brings together undergraduate and graduate students from across disciplines to share their work. Presentations may take many forms, including oral talks, poster sessions, exhibits, and performances, allowing students to communicate their ideas in ways that best reflect their projects.
Why Participate?
Participating in S³ offers valuable professional and academic benefits, including:
- Opportunities to share original communication research and creative work
- Practice developing public speaking and professional communication skills
- Engagement with faculty mentors, fellow students, and community members
- Networking and professional development experience
- Eligibility for cash awards recognizing outstanding presentations
Who Can Present?
All SDSU students, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, are encouraged to participate. Students may present preliminary, ongoing, or completed work that is research based, creative, or practice oriented. Presentations are organized by discipline and student level.
Presentation Formats
S³ supports a variety of presentation formats to highlight the diversity of student work, including:
- Oral Presentations: Brief talks followed by a question and answer session
- Poster Presentations: Visual displays with interactive discussion
- Exhibit Presentations: Larger displays, demonstrations, or installations
- Performance and Theater Presentations: Creative performances or screenings
