Bio

Dr. Eduardo González is an Assistant Professor of Border Studies and Communication at San Diego State University. His research focuses on smartphone use among transient refugee communities in Latin America and the Middle East, with an emphasis on Central American refugees in Mexico and Syrian refugees in Turkey. González’s research employs multilingual (English, Spanish, Turkish, and Arabic) and multimodal methods to understand how refugees in transit employ technology for socioeconomic mobility, cultural acclimation, and networks of care. His work also considers the legal and political implications of the United States and European Union, respectively, in broader migratory processes.
