Dr. Dykstra-DeVette earned a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Utah in 2016, where she studied refugee resettlement efforts. Her research is focused on organizational communication, critical/cultural studies, and non-profit/social change rhetoric. Past studies have addressed empowerment and disempowerment in a non-profit, forced migration and neoliberalism, and the rhetoric and representations of activist networks. Her work has been published in Organization Studies, Southern Communication Journal, and Journal of Social Media Studies. In the past, she has served as the director of debate and as an assistant debate coach at the University of Utah and Texas Tech University respectively.
